Ultimate Survival Mod

Author of the Ultimate Survival Mod: mlie

Ultimate Survival Mod is a brutal RimWorld overhaul built for players who want a much harsher, faster, and more punishing survival experience. Originally created as an intentionally unbalanced and chaotic personal challenge mod, it massively accelerates the pace of the game while throwing frequent, increasingly dangerous raids at the player.

The mod is not meant to be played like standard RimWorld. You get only a very short setup window before attacks begin, and from that point onward you are expected to constantly build, repair, adapt, and survive under pressure. The original author explicitly warned that the mod was never properly balanced for modern RimWorld or for heavy modded playthroughs, so expect instability, rough edges, and compatibility problems.

How Ultimate Survival Changes Gameplay

This mod heavily changes the expected rhythm of RimWorld. Colonists work, learn, craft, and research much faster, but enemy pressure ramps up just as aggressively. The intention is to push players away from slow colony-building and into a constant cycle of emergency preparation and defense.

To support that faster pace, the mod also adjusts several systems beyond raids. Base mood is higher than normal, allowing colonists to endure more stress before breaking. Some enemies drop Powershards, which are used in much of the mod’s added content. Non-tribal humanoid enemies are also no longer recruitable, changing how prisoners are used.

Useful Gameplay Notes

  • Powershards are obtained from most enemies and are important for many recipes and structures added by the mod.
  • Non-tribe humanoid enemies cannot be recruited.
  • These enemies can still be imprisoned, harvested, or sold.
  • Crematorium bills must be set to accept “HumanTwo” bodies for non-tribal humanoids.
  • Colonists have a much higher base mood than in vanilla, so mental breaks are harder to trigger.

Planned Content

  • Multiple versions of the mod for different difficulty levels.
  • New raid styles.
  • Art improvements and cleanup.
  • More weapons and armor.
  • More turrets.

Performance Warning

Late-game attacks can become much larger than standard RimWorld raids. On weaker systems, or when playing at high speed, these raids may cause major framerate drops. The author tried to limit extreme pawn counts, but the largest raid sizes can still be demanding.

Compatibility notes

For the intended experience, this mod should be used with no other gameplay mods beyond simple utility mods. The original author specifically warned that it was not designed to be balanced with other content mods and may break or behave unpredictably when combined with them.

Original Author Warning

The original creator openly stated that this mod was unfinished, unbalanced, and never meant for recent RimWorld versions. It was updated forward despite being an old work-in-progress, so it may contain serious bugs or design issues. Use it only if you specifically want a chaotic, punishing overhaul and are willing to accept that risk.
