mlieSS Lightning Rod Mod adds functional lightning rods to RimWorld, allowing you to redirect lightning strikes away from your colony while optionally generating power from them.
SS Lightning Rod Mod Features
The SS Lightning Rod Mod introduces new structures designed to protect your base from lightning while also offering potential energy generation.
Lightning redirection
Lightning rods attract incoming lightning strikes, redirecting them away from important buildings and reducing the risk of fires or structural damage in your colony.
Power-generating rod
The main lightning rod uses an ion beam emitter to attract lightning and convert part of the strike into usable power. It features three operational modes and is unlocked through machining research. It can be found in the “Misc” tab.
Basic lightning rod
A simpler version of the rod is available earlier in progression:
- Unlocked with smithing.
- 50% chance to attract lightning.
- Does not require components.
- Does not generate power.
- Requires repairs after extended use.
Overload limitations
Lightning rods have a limit to how much lightning they can handle. If too many strikes hit the same rod in a short period, it may become overwhelmed and less effective.
Colony protection
By strategically placing rods, you can significantly reduce the risk of lightning-related fires and damage, improving colony safety during storms.
When troubleshooting the SS Lightning Rod Mod:
- See if the error persists if you just have this mod and its requirements active.
- If not, try adding your other mods until it happens again.
- Always post your log using the Log Uploader.

- Do not report errors by making a discussion-thread, I get no notification of that.

Compatibility notes
The SS Lightning Rod Mod integrates with RimWorld’s weather system and works with existing saves.
Lightning rods may become less effective if overloaded by repeated strikes in a short period.
