The Simple Mining Extension Mod expands RimWorld’s mining and smelting systems by making vanilla metals require ore processing before they can be used. It adds ores, mines, new smelting buildings, adobe brick production, coal-based power options, and new research steps for deeper mining progression.
Simple Mining Extension Mod Features
The Simple Mining Extension Mod changes vanilla metallic resources so they must be smelted from ores first. Steel, gold, and silver can be smelted in the primitive furnace, coal smelter, and electric smelter. Uranium and plasteel can be smelted at the electric smelter after researching “Advanced Smelting”.
The mod also adds mines, which work as primitive deep drills using resources from a separate grid. Mines can spawn infestations like vanilla drills, and there is a chance of mining accidents based on the pawn’s Mining skill. This accident feature can be disabled in the mod options.
After mining, pawns receive the “Miners Hunger” hediff, which increases hunger and decreases plant work speed and yield. The effect goes away on its own.
Adobe bricks
The Simple Mining Extension Mod adds adobe bricks as an early construction material for smelting progression. Raw bricks can be crafted at the Brick Spot from hay, then used with wood to build drying racks. After around three in-game days, the bricks will be ready to use.
Adobe bricks can also dry on their own when left lying around. Drying speed may vary depending on temperature and humidity.
Buildings
- Coal generator: Similar in stats to the chemfuel generator.
- Blast furnace: Similar to the electric smelter, uses coal, and is unlocked by Smithing research.
- Mines: Primitive deep drills that use resources from a separate grid.
- Sieve: Used to find ores for mines. Highlights found ores when selected.
- Fueled Kiln: Tribal smelting solution.
- Brick Spot: Allows adobe bricks to be made from hay.
Ores and coal
- Added coal, which can be used to fuel stoves, smithies, and coal-powered generators.
- Added ore items for every vanilla metallic resource.
Sieve
When a pawn finishes prospecting, you can click on the sieve to see whether any ores have been found.
The sieve can find new ores if some of the existing nodes on the map have been depleted. Deconstructing and placing it again can help, with a higher chance depending on how many nodes are depleted.
Research
- Mining: Unlocks mines.
- Electric smelting: Unlocks the electric smelter.
- Advanced smelting: Unlocks plasteel and uranium refining at the electric smelter.
Supported mods
- WD Fueled Heaters: Fueled heaters will accept coal.
- Coal Expanded: If installed, the Simple Mining Extension Mod will use coal from this mod and remove its own coal items from the game.
Latest changes
- Added Coal Expanded support.
- Fixed formatting in XML files.
- Updated mod descriptions.
Compatibility notes
The Simple Mining Extension Mod will be incompatible with mods that change vanilla mineable rocks.
The mod can be added to an existing save, but a new map is required to use the new mine building properly, because resource veins will not have generated on maps created before the mod was installed.
