Save Maps Mod

Author of the Save Maps Mod: mlie

The Save Maps Mod allows you to save RimWorld maps at any time and load them across different saves. Maps are stored as blueprint files accessed through the Dev menu, making it possible to reuse favorite maps, share them without seeds or coordinates, transfer bases, preserve items, and optionally keep colonists with the saved map.

Save Maps Mod Features

  • Save full maps as blueprint files and load them across different saves.
  • Save map blueprints in the game’s configuration files location, keeping them safe from Steam Workshop updates or accidental unsubscriptions.
  • Load saved maps without needing to reuse seeds or find specific coordinates.
  • Generate mod-added ores in valid ore locations when loading blueprints, even if the original map was saved in vanilla RimWorld.
  • Automatically adjust map size when loading saved blueprints to avoid size mismatch issues.
  • Save only player-placed structures within the home area if you want to transfer a base instead of a full map.
  • Save all items on the map along with the map itself.
  • Optionally save colonists together with the map.
  • Save barebones untouched maps for use in different saves with different colonists and stories.

Saved map location

Your saved maps will be stored in the following location:

C:\Users\your-username\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon Studios\RimWorld by Ludeon Studios\Config\SavedMapPresets

In order to use the Save Maps Mod, you must first enable Dev Mode in the options menu. In the Dev Menu, you will find a new category called “Save Maps” with the buttons used to control the mod.

  • Save Everything w/o Colonists: Saves the map and everything on it, including items, but excluding colonists.
  • Save in Home Area with Colonists: Saves all created structures within the home area as a blueprint that can be transplanted to another map. Colonists will also be saved.
  • Save in Home Area w/o Colonists: Saves all created structures within the home area as a blueprint that can be transplanted to another map. Colonists will not be saved.
  • Load Blueprint: Loads a saved blueprint and takes all items and colonists with you to the new map.
  • Load Blueprint (override): Loads a saved blueprint without carrying over anything from the current map.
  • Load Blueprint (override, except colonists): Loads a saved blueprint and only carries over your colonists, but no items, to the new map.
