Rational Romance Mod overhauls RimWorld’s romance system by adding orientations, new romance-related traits, new social activities, cultural differences, polyamory support, adjusted mood penalties and several fixes to vanilla romance behavior.
Rational Romance Mod Features
Orientations
Rational Romance Mod gives pawns a sexual orientation trait: asexual, bisexual, gay or straight. These orientation traits are assigned after regular trait assignment, so they do not take up a normal trait slot.
By default, pawns have a 50% chance to be bisexual, a 20% chance to be gay, a 20% chance to be straight and a 10% chance to be asexual. These values can be changed in the mod options menu.
New traits
- Faithful: Makes pawns less likely to cheat.
- Philanderer: Makes pawns more likely to cheat.
New activities
- Long walks: Couples can go on long walks as a date activity, letting them socialize and improve their relationship.
- Casual hookups: Single pawns can use casual hookups as a joy activity.
Improved romantic behavior
- Pawns will no longer make romance attempts if they have been recently rebuffed.
- Pawns will not target pawns who are currently in a mental break.
- Pawns will not make romance attempts toward pawns with whom they already have a romantic relationship.
- Pawns will neither initiate nor receive romance attempts if they have a high opinion of their current lover.
- Gay or straight pawns are more likely to rebuff romance attempts from pawns of the wrong gender.
- Gay or straight pawns are more likely to break up with partners of the wrong gender.
- Gay or straight pawns will never accept marriage proposals from pawns of the wrong gender.
- The impact of the Ugly trait on romantic attraction is reduced for pawns who also have that trait.
Cultural romance differences
Rational Romance Mod adds a cultural component to romantic interactions. Female pawns from tribal and imperial backgrounds are more likely to initiate romance or propose marriage, while male pawns from medieval and urbworld backgrounds are more likely to do so.
Polyamory support
Polyamorous pawns prefer relationships involving multiple partners instead of simple monogamous relationships. The chance for pawns to be polyamorous can be configured in the mod options menu. Like orientation traits, the Polyamorous trait is assigned after normal trait assignment, so it does not take up a normal trait slot.
The default chance for polyamory is 0%, since the system is not yet fully tested and may complicate colony management in unexpected ways.
Romance-related mood changes
Romance-related penalties and stack limits for rebuffs and romantic failures have been reduced. Pawns should no longer suffer extreme mood problems after a few failed romance attempts.
Vanilla romance code fixes
- Female pawns are now just as likely as male pawns to initiate romance attempts or propose marriage, subject to cultural variations.
- Gay pawns are no less likely than straight pawns to be parents.
- Male and female pawns now both prefer partners near their own age, but can potentially accept either younger or older partners.
