Permafrost Mod introduces a new cold biome to RimWorld and adds dynamic water freezing mechanics that react to temperature changes across the map.
Permafrost Features
The Permafrost Mod adds a biome located between tundra and ice sheet regions, representing permanently frozen ground with harsh environmental conditions.
- New biome: Permafrost, a frozen landscape with permanently frozen ground and limited wildlife.
- Frozen terrain: Much of the biome is covered in ground ice that is only a few meters thick.
- Sparse ecosystem: Vegetation is mostly limited to scrub brush, with very few animals present.
Dynamic water freezing
- Lakes, rivers, and marshes gradually freeze when temperatures drop below freezing.
- Frozen water will thaw again when temperatures rise.
- Ground ice in permafrost biomes slowly expands or retreats depending on temperature.
- The freezing system can be disabled in the mod options if desired.
- Flowing water freezes at lower temperatures than still water, creating more dynamic seasonal behavior.
Fishing interaction
- Fishing spots placed on water tiles that freeze will be destroyed.
- Fishing piers from FishIndustry Mod are not affected.
- Shellfish traps from Fishing Mod are also unaffected since they are buildings.
Compatibility notes
- If the Odyssey Mod is loaded, this mod’s water freezing system will be disabled.
- The Permafrost Mod can be safely added to an existing save, but it will not generate the biome on already-created maps.
- Removing the mod from an ongoing save is not recommended.
- Compatible with Vanilla Fishing Expanded Mod.
- Compatible with Terraform Rimworld Mod based on preliminary testing.
- Compatible with Dub’s Bad Hygiene Mod (with the appropriate update).
- Using Watermill Tweaks (Continued) Mod is recommended to reduce watermill power output during cold seasons.
