The Fishing-ReWork Mod reworks Rainbeau Flambe’s fishing mod with renewed fish textures, new fish and shellfish, fixed issues, rewritten Defs, and additional compatibility support while keeping the feel of the original fishing system.
Fishing-ReWork Mod Features
If Odyssey is loaded, only the shellfish trap is included, as fishing is already in the DLC.
The Fishing-ReWork Mod is a rework of Rainbeau Flambe’s fishing mod, with an updated version by Mlie. It includes major changes such as redone fish textures, issue fixes, rewritten Defs, and retained minor fishing-related values from the original mod code.
How fishing works
Fishing is a custom work type that relies on the Animals skill. Pawns with higher skill will fish faster and have a higher chance of successfully catching something. Fishing also serves as a joy activity for pawns with a passion for the Animals skill.
Fishing spots can become depleted if overfished, and will occasionally need to be allowed to recharge.
Fish and eels can be caught at any fishing spot, though the type of fish available varies with the biome, and eels are more common in marshes than in water tiles. Squid can only be caught in ocean tiles.
Shellfish traps will periodically catch shellfish or tiny fish automatically, without pawn interaction. They will sometimes take a bit of damage while doing so and will occasionally need to be repaired.
Fish and shellfish can be cleaned, or butchered, for meat, while squid and eels can be butchered for both meat and leather.
The Fishing-ReWork Mod also adds ice fishing spots, which work as normal fishing spots, except that they can only be constructed on frozen river or lake water tiles generated by Permafrost, Fumblesneeze’s Ice, or Nature’s Pretty Sweet. Ice fishing spots cannot be placed on vanilla ice tiles, and will appear on the Production tab of the Architect menu only if at least one of the freezing mods is in your mod list.
Differences from the original mod
- Renewed textures for all fish, fish meat, fishing spots, and fishing rods.
- Added new fish, especially more shellfish.
- Tiny fish can be grilled at the campfire.
- Fish are no longer stacked like animal corpses.
- Seafood has been separated from the raw meat category.
- A fishmonger has been added to caravans and visitors, so maps without water can still access fish.
- Fishmongers sell fish corpses, while fish meat is sold by regular traders like animal meat.
Problems fixed from the original
- Clothes made of squid skin and eel skin can now be burned.
- Fixed an issue where spots would not be displayed when setting up fishing spot blueprints.
- When catching trash, you no longer catch camel wool from previous versions. Instead, you can catch animal leather or human leather…fear.
- All dishes have been deleted, as a separate add-on mod for seafood dishes is being made.
Addon mods
- Fishing-ReWork Seafood and Sushi Addon: Adds seafood recipes and sushi recipes with seafood meat.
- Fishing Recipes: Adds some of the recipes that were included in the originals, by Zaljerem.
- Vanilla Achievements Expanded Compatibility: Adds compatibility support for Vanilla Achievements Expanded.
Compatibility notes
The Fishing-ReWork Mod cannot be used with the original fishing mod.
There is basically no problem with other fishing mods. However, the treatment of fish corpses is different, so it may cause confusion.
Installation during an existing save is safe. Be careful when uninstalling.
When replacing the original mod, delete or butcher the raw fish on the map, and deconstruct any fishing spots and shellfish traps. Some resources, such as fish meat and eel skin, will continue to remain. You may see a small error log at the start, but the replacement should work without major problems.
Other mod compatibility
- WaterFreezes: Ice fishing spots will be enabled.
- Biomes!: Fishing in lagoon water is possible, though there may be issues with the type of fish you can catch due to biome restrictions.
- Vanilla Cooking Expanded: Tiny fish can be grilled on the grill, seafood meat can be canned, and moderately sized fish corpses can be fried.
- Vanilla Cooking Expanded – Sushi: Fish meat can be used as an ingredient for sushi.
A patch is required to use seafood as a substitute for raw meat.
