[RF] Concrete Mod

Author of the [RF] Concrete Mod: mlie

The Concrete Mod adds concrete as a usable building material in RimWorld, including new production chains for sand, crushed rocks, cement, cinder blocks, concrete walls, reinforced walls, and embrasures. It also changes vanilla concrete and paved tile floors so they are built with concrete instead of steel.

Concrete Mod Features

  • Adds concrete to the game.
  • Can be used independently or alongside Fertile Fields.
  • Concrete can be made at a stonecutting table using sand, crushed rocks, and cement.
  • Sand and crushed rocks can be made from stone chunks or blocks at a stonecutting table.
  • Cement is made by cooking limestone in a smithy.
  • The cement recipe can be adjusted to allow other stone types.
  • Vanilla concrete and paved tile floors are made with concrete instead of steel.
  • Adds cinder blocks, which can be used for walls and other items normally made from stone blocks.
  • Cinder block walls are weaker and less attractive than granite walls, but can be built quickly.
  • Adds embrasures made from any material regular walls can use.
  • Adds poured concrete walls, which are as strong as standard stone walls and easier to build in bulk.
  • Adds steel-reinforced concrete walls and matching embrasures, which are nearly as strong as plasteel walls.
  • Adds plasteel-reinforced concrete walls with twice the durability of plasteel walls.
  • Steel-reinforced walls require Machining research.
  • Plasteel-reinforced walls also require Microelectronics Basics research.
  • Added support for using sand from Ceramics.
  • Fixed the mod economy so stone can no longer be produced from nothing.
  • Fixed embrasure cover values to 70% instead of 95%.
  • Fixed brick embrasure cost.

Compatibility notes

The Concrete Mod should be compatible with most mods, except perhaps other mods that also add concrete.

The basic embrasures added by the Concrete Mod share a defName with the embrasures added by Combat Extended. Embrasures will be defined by whichever of the two mods loads last. Loading the Concrete Mod after Combat Extended is recommended by the original author.

The Concrete Mod can be added to an existing saved game without trouble, but removing it from a game in progress will likely cause problems.

If you are using Fertile Fields, the terraforming option that converts rocky dirt into rough stone will require concrete in addition to crushed rocks.

If you are using Advanced Bridges, deep water bridges will require concrete instead of steel.

If the Concrete Mod is used with Glass+Lights or Dub’s Skylights, glass creation from those mods will require sand from the Concrete Mod.
