mlieThe Rational Romance 2 Mod expands and reworks RimWorld’s romance system with orientations, new traits, improved AI behavior, cultural influences and optional polyamory support.
Originally created by Rainbeau Flambe, this version is maintained and updated by Zombie_Striker, with additional features and performance improvements.
Rational Romance 2 Features
Orientations
- All pawns receive an orientation trait: asexual, bisexual, gay or straight.
- Orientation traits are assigned after normal trait generation and do not consume a regular trait slot.
- Default distribution: 50% bisexual, 20% gay, 20% straight, 10% asexual.
- All orientation percentages are fully configurable in the mod options.
New traits
- Faithful: Less likely to cheat.
- Philanderer: More likely to cheat.
- Polyamorous: Prefers relationships with multiple partners (configurable chance, default 0%).
New activities
- Long walks as a date option to strengthen relationships.
- Casual hookups as a joy activity for single pawns.
Improved romantic behavior
- Pawns will not repeatedly attempt romance after recent rejection.
- Pawns avoid initiating romance during mental breaks or with existing lovers.
- Gay and straight pawns are more likely to reject or break up with partners of the non-preferred gender.
- Marriage proposals from the non-preferred gender will always be refused.
- Reduced impact of the Ugly trait when both pawns share it.
- Configurable adjustments for misogynists and misandrists regarding attraction and romance success.
Culture-based romance behavior
- Tribal and imperial female pawns are more forward than males from those cultures.
- Medieval and urbworld male pawns are more forward than females from those cultures.
Mood and balance adjustments
- Reduced mood penalties and stack limits for romantic failures.
- Prevents extreme mental breaks caused by repeated romantic rejection.
- Balanced age preferences for both male and female pawns.
- Gay pawns are just as likely as straight pawns to become parents.
Compatibility notes
- Save games: Can be added to an ongoing save. Cannot be safely removed once added.
- Incompatible: Psychology.
Support and troubleshooting
- Test whether the issue persists with only the Rational Romance 2 Mod (and required mods) enabled.
- If it disappears, re-enable other mods gradually until the issue returns.
- Always share your log using the Log Uploader.
