Random Factions Mod adds random faction generation to RimWorld, ensuring every world you create is truly unique. Instead of manually selecting factions, the game fills the world with a random mix of factions and xenotypes, so no two playthroughs are ever the same.
Random Factions Mod Features
- Automatic Faction Randomization: Factions are chosen randomly when generating a new world, keeping gameplay fresh and unpredictable.
- Faction Variety: Includes random replacements for neutral, rough, and pirate factions. Hidden factions like Mechanoids, Insects, and the Empire are excluded.
- Biotech Integration: If you own the Biotech DLC, random factions may use random xenotypes — giving rise to combinations like Dragon Vikings when using other mods such as VFE Vikings and Mythic Biotech Expansion.
- Highly Customizable: Configure mod behavior in the Mod Options menu:
- Re-organize Factions (default on).
- Xenotype Frequency (0–100% chance to convert baseliners).
- Allow Duplicate Factions (off by default).
- Integration With Other Mods: Automatically detects new factions added by other mods and integrates them seamlessly.
- Works Great With: Planet Setting Randomizer Mod for even more variation.
Recommended Setup
Dr. Plantabyte suggests using 4 random factions, 2 civil, 2 rough, and 1 pirate faction, plus Mechanoid and Insectoid factions for balance.
Once generated, you’ll only see “?” placeholders until your pawns land — then your world’s true factions are revealed.
Compatibility notes
Integrations:
- HugsLib: Required dependency. Load it before this mod.
- Faction Control: Works alongside without conflicts.
- VFE Core: Prevents mid-game faction pop-up spam.
- VFE Mechanoids & Insectoids: Adds “random mechanoid” and “random insectoid” placeholders with a 50/50 chance to become vanilla or VFE versions.
- Game Saves: Requires a new save to take effect. Existing saves are unaffected.
- Uninstalling: Removing Random Factions is safe unless you have Biotech DLC installed and your world includes random xenotype factions — those may break when loading without the mod.
