The Propaganda TV Mod makes powered televisions and radios passively influence nearby colonists, reducing certainty in non-primary ideologies and reinforcing belief in the colony’s primary ideology.
Propaganda TV Mod Features
- Passively reduces certainty in newly recruited pawns whose ideology is not the colony’s primary ideology.
- Automatically converts pawns to the colony’s primary ideology if their certainty becomes low enough.
- Reinforces belief in the colony’s primary ideology for pawns who already follow it.
- Adds a short-term mood buff of +5 for 5 hours.
- Does not affect prisoners in prison cells.
- Works by adding a comp to powered radios and televisions.
- Does not require research.
- Can be added or removed from a save at any time.
- Can support modded TVs and radios.
Brainwash your new recruits!
If a colonist is healthy, awake, alive, not burning, able to see and hear, and within range of a television or radio, their beliefs start to waver. As their belief in their ideology gets lower, the effect becomes weaker, but it can still convert the colonist to your primary ideology.
Things that affect the function of the mod
- The colonist must be alive and awake.
- The colonist must be able to see and hear.
- The colonist must be within range of a television or radio.
- Different television and radio types have different radius and effect factors.
- The effect is stronger when the colonist’s mood is higher.
How RimPropaganda is different
RimPropaganda is a similar mod that takes a more active approach.
- RimPropaganda adds propaganda art.
- RimPropaganda requires the TV to be set to propaganda.
- RimPropaganda requires pawns to be watching a TV, not just standing in range.
- RimPropaganda is not affected by colonist mood.
- RimPropaganda causes a mood debuff for pawns being converted.
- RimPropaganda also reinforces existing beliefs for pawns already converted.
Current balance
The Propaganda TV Mod currently runs every 1000 ticks, which is approximately every 16 seconds on normal speed.
Several factors affect the final certainty reduction or gain:
- Tech level.
- Mood.
- Sight.
- Hearing.
- TV or radio effect factor.
The calculation starts with a factor of 1, since certainty ranges from 0 to 1. Mood is multiplied by the TV effect factor, then by sight and hearing, and then by tech level.
The final calculation divides certainty by 10 and multiplies it by the result of the previous factors. Since the numbers get smaller as certainty drops, reducing certainty takes longer as the pawn gets closer to conversion.
After these calculations, the result is compared to 0.25, and whichever value is smaller is used. This means certainty reduction will never be higher than 0.25 at a time. In most cases, the value will be smaller than 0.25, but the limit acts as a sanity check.
