PawnsChooseResearch Mod

Author of the PawnsChooseResearch Mod: mlie

The PawnsChooseResearch Mod eliminates the need to micromanage research by letting your pawns select it for you. Each pawn chooses and tracks their own research project based on their skills, passions, and traits. You can view a pawn’s current research while they are working or in their stats page, and track your colony’s entire research timeline with the integrated Research History feature.

PawnsChooseResearch Mod Features

Automated Research Selection: Pawns independently select research projects based on their passions, traits, and capabilities, freeing the player from micromanagement.

Research Categories: Each research project is grouped into categories. Pawns pick from these based on their traits — for example, industrious pawns prefer productive projects, while lazy pawns prefer ongoing group projects.

Core Technology Bias: Essential technologies like smithing, electricity, or microelectronics get a small boost in priority, ensuring key progressions are not delayed.

Temporary Manual Control: Players can temporarily disable the mod through the configuration menu to regain control over research without uninstalling.

Group Coordination: Pawns can select a collective project based on group preferences rather than individual ones.

Compatibility with Traits and Interests: Pawns’ decisions are influenced by both passions and personality traits. Integrated compatibility with Interests Framework (continued) is included.

Advanced Configuration Options:

  • Restore Player Control: Temporarily disable autonomous selection while preserving each pawn’s research memory.
  • Pawns Coordinate Research: Enables group-wide project selection.
  • Must Have Skill Capacity: Prevents pawns from selecting research for skills they are incapable of.
  • Passions Affect Research: Pawns prioritize research matching their skill interests.
  • Traits Affect Research: Pawn traits influence their research priorities (e.g., chemical fascination pawns prefer drug research).
  • Avoid Too Advanced Research: Pawns with low skill avoid projects above the colony’s current tech level.

How It Works:

  • Pawns randomly choose a set of possible projects based on category and filter out those they cannot or would not research.
  • They pick the project that best fits their personality and passions.
  • Pawns will not switch to another project until their current one is finished.
  • Progress is tracked through the vanilla system, allowing collaboration on shared projects.

Compatibility notes

This mod modifies only how research projects are assigned and leaves the vanilla research system intact, ensuring broad compatibility with most research-related mods.
Not compatible with Random Research Mod.

Mod-Added Research Compatibility:
This mod categorizes research projects from other mods so that pawns can select them appropriately. Unrecognized research defaults to the “intellectual” category.
