Eat Spoiling Food First Mod fixes one of the most frustrating vanilla behaviors by making pawns consume food that is closest to spoiling before touching freshly cooked meals or drinks.
Raging at your pawn eating the freshly cooked meal instead of the stack of meals spoiling in 1 hour?
Drinking the fresh beers and letting the old ones rot?
This mod solves that by making pawns prioritize the most spoiled food first.
Eat Spoiling Food First Mod Features
- Pawns eat food with the least remaining spoil time first.
- Replaces the vanilla flat spoil bonus with a linear priority system.
- Food closer to fully spoiled receives a higher priority bonus.
- Applies to human pawns and player-controlled animals.
- Only affects food spoiling in less than 3 in-game days.
How it works
In vanilla RimWorld, food choice is driven by a value called FoodOptimality. Spoiling food only gets a small flat bonus if it spoils in less than 12 hours, meaning food spoiling in 1 hour is treated the same as food spoiling in 11 hours.
This mod removes that logic and applies a linear bonus based on remaining spoil time, so food closer to spoiling is always prioritized.
The bonus is intentionally small, meaning distance and other vanilla factors still matter. For example, a far-away spoiling meal will not override a very close fresh meal.
