mlieEasy Upgrades Mod allows you to upgrade or downgrade buildings and improve item quality without deconstructing them first. It streamlines progression by letting you pay only the resource difference and adds systems for upgrading item quality based on pawn skills.
Easy Upgrades Features
Easy Upgrades Mod focuses on simplifying building upgrades and adding flexible quality improvement mechanics.
- Building upgrades and downgrades: Convert structures (e.g. fueled stove to electric stove) by paying only the resource difference, with refunds when downgrading.
- Fuel refund system: Remaining fuel is refunded when upgrading buildings.
- Quality improvement system: Attempt to increase quality of weapons, apparel, sculptures, and certain buildings based on pawn skill.
- Chance-based outcomes: Quality upgrades can succeed, fail, or have no effect, with configurable probabilities.
- Batch designation: Includes a quality-designator to upgrade multiple items at once.
- Configurable limits: Set the maximum quality level achievable via mod settings.
- Balanced upgrade costs: Costs for non-stuff items are now based on tech level and item value.
- Multiple research requirements: Supports multiple research prerequisites for upgrades.
- Mod compatibility: Adds support for Quality Of Building Mod, VGP Garden Gourmet Mod, VGP Garden Fabrics Mod, Vanilla Furniture Expanded – Production Mod, and Vanilla Furniture Expanded – Architect Mod.

- Fueled stove → Electric stove.
- Fueled smithy → Electric smithy.
- Hand tailoring bench → Electric tailoring bench.
- Wood generator → Chemfuel generator.
- Door → Autodoor.
Quality upgrades apply to
- Weapons.
- Apparel.
- Sculptures.
- Buildings with quality (e.g. beds).
Compatibility notes
Easy Upgrades Mod is no longer under active development, though it may receive updates in the future. It has received updates from the community, including a 1.3 update by Mlie.
Known issue:
- Sometimes when increasing item quality, resources may not be consumed as expected.
When troubleshooting the Easy Upgrades Mod:
- See if the error persists if you just have this mod and its requirements active.
- If not, try adding your other mods until it happens again.
- Always post your log using the Log Uploader.
