Blood Pact Ritual Mod

Author of the Blood Pact Ritual Mod: mlie

The Blood Pact Ritual Mod adds blood pacts, a powerful double-edged bond that lets colonists share injuries, reduce incoming damage, and create new combat and storytelling possibilities.

Blood Pact Ritual Mod Features

  • Removes the dependency on HugsLib.
  • Adds blood pacts between two colonists.
  • Blood pacts are created with a ritual dagger crafted at a crafting spot for a small jade and wood cost.
  • No research is required to craft the ritual dagger.
  • Only one blood pact can be active per colonist.
  • Blood pacts are permanent and cannot be undone.

How to create a blood pact

  1. Craft a ritual dagger at a crafting spot.
  2. Choose two colonists for the blood pact.
  3. Have one colonist attack the other with the ritual dagger.
  4. The ritual dagger is consumed and the blood pact is created between the two colonists.

Blood pact effects

  • Shared injuries: Both colonists split damage between them, reducing the total amount of damage applied.
  • Increased resilience: Blood-pacted colonists become much harder to kill in combat, especially when only one of them is exposed to damage.
  • Shared death: If one colonist dies, the other dies as well.
  • Relationship-based power: The mood and opinion between the two colonists affect the strength of the pact.
  • Distance effects: Colonists generally dislike being very far away from their blood pact partner.

Relationship effects

  • Negative relationship: If the two pawns hate each other, the blood pact is less effective and causes sadness.
  • Positive relationship: If the two pawns love each other, the blood pact is more effective and improves their mood.

Mod options

  • Allow blood pacts with animals: Allows colonists to make blood pacts with tamed animals. Pact power is based on whether a bond exists, but efficiency is generally low. Strong animals, such as Thrumbos, may create balance issues.
  • Recruit prisoners with blood pact: Allows prisoners to be forced into the colony by creating a blood pact with one of your colonists, though they may be unhappy about it.
  • Allow pawn revolt: Allows involved pawns to botch a blood pact ritual by going berserk if they strongly oppose it. If they cannot revolt, they receive a strong mood debuff instead.
  • Pact shared damage needs tending: Makes shared damage bleed and require tending. This option is disabled by default.

Pawn revolt factors

  • Colonists: Based on mood and opinion of the other pawn.
  • Prisoners: Based on improved recruit chance, including opinion and mood.
  • Animals: Based on bond. An animal has the highest chance to revolt when the colonist it shares a bond with is not the one involved in the blood pact.

FAQ

  • Is a new save required? No.
  • Is a blood pact with an animal possible? Yes, if the relevant option is activated. It has low efficiency, meaning little damage is shared, but the shared death effect still applies.
  • Can I create a blood pact with a raider? Can a raider create a blood pact with one of my colonists? No. Blood pacts can only happen within the player faction, including prisoners if the relevant option is activated.
  • What happens if I make my colonists attack raiders with the ritual dagger anyway? The same thing as attacking with a bad shiv.
  • What if one colonist attacks another by accident with a ritual dagger? No blood pact will happen, because both parties must be able and willing to perform the ritual. The only exception is downed pawns, who have no choice but to accept the ritual and will not be happy about it.
  • How strong can a blood pact be? Blood pact strength depends on the mutual opinions of the two pawns. The more they like each other, the more damage they share and the more resilient they become.
  • Worst case: If they hate each other, 90% of damage goes to the original target and 10% is shared.
  • Best case: If they love each other, 30% of damage goes to the original target and 30% is shared. This means part of every attack is ignored.
  • Is that overpowered? It is strong, but every time you expose these tanky pawns to danger, you risk double casualties. The pact is also permanent, even if the pawns later hate each other.

Compatibility notes

The Blood Pact Ritual Mod should be compatible with any other mod.

The Blood Pact Ritual Mod is also compatible with EdB Prepare Carefully, which can be used to add blood pacts to your starting colonists through the “Relations” tab.
