ActiveResponseTraining Mod adds dedicated combat training facilities that let your colonists actively maintain and improve their Shooting and Melee skills in a controlled, balanced way.
ActiveResponseTraining Features
- Combat training buildings: Adds a modular shooting range and a melee training dummy.
- Bill-based training: Uses the bill system to manage training behavior and priorities.
- Meaningful skill gain: Provides experience comparable to, but higher than, manual combat training and common work activities.
- Hunter-only usage: Only colonists assigned as hunters will use the training buildings.
- Balanced upkeep: Colonists at max skill will spend around 2–3 hours per day maintaining that level.
- Smart automation: Bills can be limited by skill level so pawns train only when skills drop.
Training mechanics
- Melee training: Free of material cost.
- Shooting training: Consumes steel (ammo) and wood logs (targets).
- Balanced costs: Shooting skill gain costs roughly 10% of a Neurotrainer per skill point.
Additional improvements
- No joy gained from training.
- Melee dummy is uninstallable (minifiable).
- Expanded construction material options with improved textures.
- Melee dummy can be built from any leather plus hay.
- Shooting range supports woody, stony, or metallic materials.
Customization
ActiveResponseTraining Mod can be easily tweaked by editing the file:
\Defs\RecipeDefs\AR-Recipe.xml
- workSkillLearnFactor and workAmount control skill gain and training duration.
- Default gain is approximately 1144 skill points per job (about one hour).
- Reducing workAmount proportionally reduces training time.
- Shooting costs can be removed by deleting the ingredients block in the recipe file.
